FLORIDA (SNN TV) - Florida teenagers won't be able to drive golf carts without a permit or license. That's after Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 949, which bans young drivers from public streets. The Herald-Tribune reports that Florida law used to allow 14-year-olds to drive a golf cart and made it difficult for local government to enact their own laws to raise the age. Now you can face a noncriminal traffic violation such as a moving violation if you're under 18 and don't have a learner's permit or driver's license. People 18 and older have to have a government ID to drive. According to Florida statute, a golf cart is “a motor vehicle that is designed and manufactured for operation on a golf course for sporting or recreational purposes and that is not capable of exceeding speeds of 20 miles per hour.”

As golf cart use increases on roads and sidewalks, residents search for proper rules. Knowing the proper ways and rules of the road can be the difference between staying safe, or getting ticketed.

A Condo Association sued and levied a judgement against a association member after repeated requests for access guaranteed under Florida Statutes were denied. This sets a dangerous precent as a single homeowner was targeted for a total of $395,544 in summary judgement for legal fees by the association.
